CURRENT RESEARCH INTERESTS
The development of integrated pest management programs for forage crops with special research emphasis on biology, ecology, and biological control of insects pests of these crops and especially the alfalfa weevil and potato leafhopper.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- In addition to Acting Chief and Center Director duties, Project leader for the Forage Crop Research Team - responsibilities include coordination of forage crop research to develop pest management programs for alfalfa pests and especially the alfalfa weevil and potato leafhopper including the interaction of the latter with broadleaf weeds and grasses. The research program places special emphasis on biology, ecology and biological control and especially the use of pathogens for both the alfalfa weevil and potato leafhopper. Some insecticide evaluations are included in this research program.
- Illinois Representative to NC-193.- Spatial Dynamics of Leafhopper Pests And Their Management On Alfalfa - cooperation with other participating states with our emphasis on detection of first migrants into Illinois Collections are sent to researchers in New York and Michigan. First migrant data are compared with researchers at Illinois participating in NCR-148.
- Research responsibilities involve cooperative programs with J. Maddox, K. Steffey, D. Onstad, L. Solter, G. Kapusta (Southern Illinois University), and assistance from Research Scientist Steve Roberts.
